Again and again, I return to the way we treat endometriosis patients, ignoring their peritoneal level pain, offering treatments doomed to failure, and then the ever-present psychological dismissal. It’s a perfect storm to allow us to continue in the darkness around relieving the suffering these patients endure. The way forward is to preserve evidence-based education.

When Nancy’s Nook first launched in 2012, no one could have predicted what a trusted resource it would become. What started as an evidence-based discussion group with a few hundred members is now an international educational library with over 120,000 members and thousands more joining every month. Although Facebook has served us well for many years, our extensive collection of articles is hard to navigate on the platform. Creating a website has been a goal of the Nook admin team for a long time but because we are run with a volunteer team, funding a website would be a challenge.

iCareBetter is an organization that identifies skilled endometriosis surgeons and helps patients locate surgeons with the skills to treat their disease. iCareBetter generously offered to donate resources and infrastructure to help us with the initial set up costs of a website. With the website now up and running, we need to find ways to make the website sustainable with additional funding. Initially, funds will be used towards the maintenance costs of the website and the creation of new content and newsletters. If the project proves successful and support continues long term, future goals include translation of content into other languages and setting up Nancy’s Nook with 501(c)(3) status.

So, how can you help? The primary goal of Nancy’s Nook is endometriosis education and it is crucial that our content remain free to anyone who needs it. But if you have found our information useful and it is within your means, we would truly appreciate a small contribution to the cause. It doesn’t have to be a lot! With the size of our membership, even $1 can go a long way! With your support, we can continue our mission of educating endometriosis patients! As more patients demand skilled excision surgery, our hope is that the medical community will be forced to take notice.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
