Erin Luyendyk was definitively diagnosed with endometriosis at twenty after being symptomatic from the age of thirteen. She has had four laparoscopies (three of which were excision and one dishonest fulguration) and one excision mini laparotomy. Even after her definitive diagnosis with biopsy she has had to advocate very hard for herself in order to be taken seriously by doctors and to receive proper treatment in the Canadian health system. She strongly believes that the education and empowerment of patients is the path towards positive change, awareness, and effective treatment for everyone with endometriosis.
